▲On September 15, the PUMCH Medical Education Innovation and Development Forum was held
On September 15, the PUMCH Medical Education Innovation and Development Forum was held as a highlight of the Education Month. Centering around the innovation and high-quality development of medical education, the forum explored and discussed various hot topics such as modern medical education reforms and innovative talent training models. At the forum, PUMCH and the University of Chicago renewed their friendship and signed a new Memorandum of Understanding to further broaden, deepen and upgrade collaboration .
The Education Month series of activities will continue until the end of September, with parallel thematic activities such as teacher training, mentor training, and standardized patients (SP) training. They speak volumes about the elite medical education model that PUMCH has thrived on and relentlessly innovated for a century.
Build a Medical Safety Culture System with PUMCH Characteristics
▲On September 13, PUMCH held the 2023 Medical Safety Conference
September 17 marked the World Patient Safety Day, and this year’s theme was “Encouraging Patient Involvement in Patient Safety”. A few days before the hospital’s anniversary, PUMCH held the 2023 Medical Safety Conference, emphasizing the importance of medical safety with a strong dose of caution for the entire hospital.
Medical safety is the lifeline of hospitals and the most basic expectation that people harbor for hospitals. Since the beginning of this year, PUMCH has initiated an inquiry and accountability mechanism targeting medical record quality and a mechanism for mutual evaluation of consultation that factors in timely response rate, and satisfaction rate, etc. The hospital also carries out monthly reviews of the implementation of core medical systems in wards and makes in-person surveys in departments to gather information on patient satisfaction. Such examples of pragmatic measures abound, and they have borne fruits. With such efforts, the hospital has put in place a medical safety cultural system with PUMCH characteristics and further reinforced the awareness of safety across the board, thereby shoring up patient safety.
State Key Laboratory Soon to Be Operational
In 2023, with the approval of the Ministry of Science and Technology, PUMCH, together with the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Tsinghua University, has been reconstructing the State Key Laboratory of Complex, Severe and Rare Diseases.

Located in the Beijing Daxing International Airport Economic Zone, the State Key Laboratory of Complex, Severe and Rare Diseases is about to be put into use, tasked with conducting a series of original research on complex, severe and rare diseases. The laboratory covers an area of over 7,000 square meters and is equipped with such facilities as a stem cell platform, a mass spectrometry analysis platform, an electron microscope and optical microscope laboratory, a supercomputing center, an animal experiment center, and a biobank.
Climbing the “Mount Everest” in the medical field has always been the responsibility of PUMCHers. Since the hospital was approved for the National High Level Hospital Clinical Research Funding in 2022, many high-level medical research programs have borne fruits. It is hoped that those fruits will soon be translated into clinical applications that address major medical issues.
Science Popularization Programs Aired on Major Channels
The hospital has worked with mainstream media such as China Central Television (CCTV) and Beijing TV to produce science popularization programs, articles, and short videos on major diseases and common diseases to address health concerns of the public, which echoes the World Patient Safety Day. After all, quality medical resources are not only in consultation rooms, wards, and operating rooms. They can also be the seeds of health literacy that are sown in people’s hearts. Science popularization is increasingly becoming a “long-term prescription” for physicians at PUMCH and part of their medical care provision.
Amid fierce competition, those who strive forward will take the lead. All the PUMCHers will strive for excellence with their mission in mind and exert their utmost to write a new chapter of high-quality development for PUMCH in the new centenary ahead.
