On August 3, 2021, the 8th PUMCH National Summer Camp for Outstanding Undergraduates kicked off online. The event was attended by 303 outstanding students selected from 1,146 applicants nationwide and promises to prioritize outstanding camp members for recommendation to the exam-free admission procedure for graduates of Class 2022 of Peking Union Medical College. PUMCH President Zhang Shuyang delivered an opening speech and expressed her earnest expectations, and Luo Linzhi, Director of the Department of Education, hosted the opening ceremony.

After the opening ceremony, PUMCH used VR to give camp members a virtual tour of the PUMCH History Museum and Medical Records Exhibition, giving them a deeper and better understanding of the hospital. During the 3-day camp, students communicated online with their desired disciplines and departments and had in-depth exchanges with graduate mentors; they also, through special activities and themed discussions, gained a basic understanding of the clinical care, research and education at PUMCH.
