2021 Huaxia Skin Imaging AI Summit Held

Recently the 2021 Huaxia Skin Imaging AI Summit/the sixth PUMCH Skin Imaging Diagnosis Workshop was held. The event focused on cutting-edge imaging research areas and has promoted the development of skin imaging related care in China.

Jin Hongzhong, Honorary Chairman of the summit and Director of the Department of Dermatology at PUMCH, introduced the progress of Huaxia Skin Image and Artificial Intelligence Cooperation (HSIAIC), a work group focused on innovation in technological models. Dr. Jin elaborated on the need to develop skin imaging technologies and build a remote diagnosis and treatment system and address the importance of overcoming the deficiencies so that China could play a more active role in advancing skin imaging and artificial intelligence in Dermatology. Dr. Liu Jie, Chairwoman of the summit and Deputy Director of the Department of Dermatology at PUMCH, said that dermatologists should utilize their new instruments, which are increasingly mature new technologies that drive the rapid development of medical imaging technology, to explore and seek new breakthroughs.

The special sessions of the summit included dermatologic oncology and telemedicine session, the International Dermoscopy Society session, dermatologic imaging AI for chronic disease management session, treatment assessment session, young doctor session, and advances in dermatologic imaging session, etc. Dermatology Experts and colleagues at home and abroad together pulled off a splendid and productive academic event.

During the summit, the AI-assisted diagnosis and whole-course management project for generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) was inaugurated. The project aims to bring more professionals onboard and use artificial intelligence based on skin imaging for scientific and standardized diagnosis and treatment of GPP, a rare skin disease. With the expertise of and collaboration between multiple parties, the project will improve the efficiency of GPP diagnosis and treatment in China, reduce the suffering inflicted by the disease and improve patients’ quality of life.
