The 3rd International Forum of Genetics and Epigenetics in Precision Medicine

On July 2 and 3, 2021, the 3rd International Forum of Genetics and Epigenetics in Precision Medicine was held in Beijing. The conference is hosted by the Department of Orthopedic Surgery, the Medical Research Center and the Beijing Key Laboratory for Genetic Research of Skeletal Deformity of PUMCH, and co-organized by the Youth Committee of the Genetics Society of China, the Institute of Biomedical Big Data of Wenzhou Medical University, the Youth Innovation Promotion Association of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Key Laboratory of Big Data for Spinal Deformities of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, and the International Collaborative Group of Deciphering Disorders Involving Scoliosis and COmorbidities (DISCO). Professor Wu Wenming, the Vice President of PUMCH, attended the event and delivered a speech.

After the opening ceremony, Academician Qiu Guixing delivered a keynote speech entitled “The Development and Prospects of Genetics of Musculoskeletal System Deformities”, in which he introduced the common musculoskeletal system deformities and elaborated on the progresses of genetic research and the future direction of the musculoskeletal abnormalities such as scoliosis, hip dysplasia, osteogenesis imperfecta and limb deformities etc.

On behalf of the China Alliance for Rare Diseases led by PUMCH, the Director of the Department of Nephrology, Professor Chen Limeng shared her thoughts on the construction of a collaborative system for rare disease diagnosis, treatment and research in China.

In addition, at the four panels of “Big Data on Diseases”, “Genetics and Epigenetics”, “Cutting-edge Medicine-Engineering Integration” and “Biomedical Big Data and Artificial Intelligence”, experts had in-depth and animated exchanges on cutting-edge ideas and perspectives, and shared the advanced technologies and research results. The scholars had a mutual agreement that the two-day event was very rewarding.
