Ophthalmology Day Ward Officially Opened Lately

Opening day wards is a crucial part of the package aiming to further improve clinical service quality. Ophthalmology surgeries features minor trauma, quick recovery and high stability, making ophthalmology an ideal pilot department for day ward. On November 25, 2020, the launching ceremony of the day ward of PUMCH Ophthalmology Department was successfully held. Leaders from the Office of Medical Affairs, Nursing Department, Operating Room, Anesthesiology Department, Medical Engineering Department attended the ceremony along with the entire Ophthalmology Department.

The core team of ophthalmology department formulated medical safety systems (disease admission, patient admission, and physician admission) based on the characteristics of the day ward, with consistent emphasis on the primacy of patient safety and quality care. Meanwhile, the team of ophthalmology department and the operating room have jointly completed decoration of exclusive ophthalmology operation rooms, renovation of the gas shroud and provision of specific ophthalmological surgical beds and instruments. The team of Ophthalmology, Medical Record and Information Department have jointly simplified and modified the medical record templates and adopted the check-type “formed medical record” for the first time, which greatly escalated work efficiency. The team of Ophthalmology and Inpatient Department jointly realized "one-stop billing at bedside", enabling patients to complete billing at bedside to optimize patients’ experience. The Ophthalmology Department also cooperated with the Department of Performance and Operation and the Department of Nursing to complete the renovation and staffing of the day ward and  created a warm, relaxing and safe working environment.

Cataract surgeries and intravitreal injection procedures will be carried out foremost followed by procedures including strabismus surgeries, ophthalmic plastic surgeries, simple vitrectomy etc. All abovementioned procedures characterize with easy access to standardization, excellent surgical stability and safety, and short stay post surgeries or procedures. Apart from the fast process and comfortable experience, the day ward also reduces the hospitalization costs, which can greatly improve the efficiency of resource use, effectively reduce the waiting time for admission and appropriately allocate the hospital beds.

With the launch of the day ward, the Ophthalmology Department of PUMCH will continuously optimize the efficiency of diagnosis and treatment, improve the quality of medical care and boost patient satisfaction.
