On November 14, 2024, PUMCH hosted the Science and Technology Innovation Conference, where the hospital unveiled its “science and innovation system development plan” (the Plan) and announced its 2024 research platforms, distinguished talents, and major awards. The event drew senior officials and leading academic experts from top institutions nationwide who delivered speeches and academic presentations.

▲The "1+3+6" innovation system
The Plan outlines both short-term and long-term goals for PUMCH's innovation endeavors: to significantly enhance research competitiveness by 2029; to transition from a national medical care center to a national medical science center by 2035.
The Plan proposes the establishment of a unified science and technology innovation leadership team, and lists critical clinical challenges, priority research tasks, and major innovation outcomes. It also details 30 specific measures across six systems: funding, platforms, talent, outcomes, support, and governance.

He recognized the Plan as a demonstration of the collective commitment at PUMCH to turning strategic vision into concrete action.

In the academic session, Academician Dou Xiankang delivered a presentation titled "Pursuing Truth, Serving Health, and Striving for Top-notch Medical Research Achievements". He thoroughly analyzed China's current basic research landscape, highlighted the crucial role of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) in propelling the nation's basic research development into a fast lane, and discussed NSFC’s recent reforms and achievements in the new era.

Academician Zhan Qimin, President of Peking University International Cancer Institute and of National Institute of Health Data Science at Peking University, presented on "Scientific Innovation Driving High-Quality Hospital Development". Academician Zhan delved into the vital importance of high-level clinical research and explored the deeper meaning of comprehensive health in the new era.

As one of Beijing's first four institutions eligible for the general clinical research alliance pilot program, PUMCH announced its first batch of clinical research alliance members at the clinical research breakout session on November 15. The alliance includes four medical institutions in Beijing and four outside Beijing, a portfolio that aims to promote efficient resource convergence, high-quality clinical research, and enhanced innovation capabilities across a broader medical network.

Additional breakout sessions on translational medicine, cutting-edge technology, and research safety will be held on November 21, 22, and 25. These sessions will feature a wide range of presentations from healthcare administrators, clinical research experts from other hospitals, and outstanding young and middle-aged representatives.
