On the morning of February 10, 2023, the Strategic Development Committee of PUMCH Macao Medical Center/ Macao Hospital (hereinafter referred to as “the Strategic Development Committee”) held the first plenary session of 2023 in Macao. The session was chaired by Academician Zhao Yupei, Honorary President of PUMCH and President of the Strategic Development Committee. High on the meeting agenda were the report on the preparations of the PUMCH Macao Medical Center/ Macao Hospital (the Medical Center) delivered by the Preparatory Office of the PUMCH Macao Medical Center/ Macao Hospital (the Preparatory Office); the report of the liaison office of the Strategic Development Committee on its work in Macao; discussions on issues concerning the preparations for the Medical Center. With all their sight set on the goal of opening the Medical Center, all members of the Strategic Development Committee put forward constructive ideas on key issues and arrived at consensus on multiple matters. The meeting was a great success.

As pointed out by Academician Zhao Yupei, Honorary President of PUMCH and President of the Strategic Development Committee, the PUMCH Macao Medical Center is an important cooperation project that embodies PUMCH’s NHC-guided support to Macao’s big health industry development, and PUMCH’s major efforts to conscientiously act upon the vision of President Xi Jinping and the CPC Central Committee for Hong Kong and Macao, contribute to the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and practice the “one country, two systems” principle in the medical field.

Li Weicheng, head of the Preparatory Office, briefed the audience in detail about the progresses and plans concerning multiple matters such as the cooperation agreement, applicable laws and regulations, and the opening plan. He also suggested the unit in charge and initial timetable for 18 specific tasks.

Wu Wenming, Vice President of PUMCH, member of the Strategic Development Committee and head of the liaison office of the committee, briefed the audience about the work done by the liaison office in Macao.

As pointed out by Zhang Shuyang, President of PUMCH and member of the Strategic Development Committee, PUMCH has incorporated the PUMCH Macao Medical Center into its plan for the 14th Five-year Plan period and listed it as a key task for 2023. To open the Medical Center is an arduous and toilsome task under a tight schedule. In light of this, first, it is necessary to establish the leading role of the Macao SAR government and set the tone for seeking progresses at a steady pace; second, responsibilities and tasks and the specific requirements for each party need to be further clarified; third, it is hoped that Macao will take care of the’ daily life needs of PUMCH staff in Macao.

The meeting also deliberated on and discussed the 2023 work plan of the Strategic Development Committee.
