On July 25, 2022, PUMCH held the sendoff meeting for the eighth Tibet-aiding medical team, and the seventh team joined via video in Tibet. Vice President Peng Bin who was already working in Tibet and the nine new members of the eighth team joined in Lhasa, Tibet on July 27 and took the baton from the seventh team to further contribute to health development in Tibet.

Over the past year, the seventh Tibet-aiding medical team of PUMCH rescued patients in critical or severe conditions for 153 times, organized or participated in 464 discussions on complicated and difficult cases, carried out 44 new technologies and projects, conducted 2,559 consultations inside and outside the hospital, and offered medical services in 30 countryside tours. Meanwhile, they vigorously assisted the Tibet Autonomous Region People’s Hospital in personnel training and improvement of management and regulations. On the snowy plateau, they fully carried forward the PUMCH spirit and demonstrated the sense of dedication and responsibility and compassion of “Anjila” (doctor of traditional Tibetan medicine) in the new era.

At the sendoff meeting, Weng Xisheng, the discipline leader of the Tibet-aiding program and Director of the Department of Surgery, and Cao Jing, the representative of past Tibet-aiding team members and the deputy director of the Department of Nursing, expressed their sincere expectations for the new team members. The nine members of the eighth team shared their thoughts and feelings before setting off for Tibet. PUMCHers will, in the spirit of realness and pragmatism, offer medical aid to its counterpart in Tibet, and work with them so that Tibetan people on the “roof of the world” can have access to quality medical resources as well.
