From July 8 to 10, 2022, Lin Qiaozhi Forum on Obstetrics and Gynecology/ the 18th Conference on New Advances in Obstetrics and Gynecology was held by the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of PUMCH. The conference focused on the latest research, views and technologies in China and abroad. Through 45 lectures and 14 surgical demonstrations by 42 experts, it displayed China’s valuable experience and research achievements in the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and complicated obstetric and gynecological diseases. This conference recorded 247,000 online attendances and positively contributed to the high-quality development of obstetrics and gynecology in China.
This year’s conference is themed “Decision-making and Techniques in Obstetrics and Gynecology Surgeries”. According to academician Lang Jinghe, decision-making and technique are key to surgeries, with the former contributing 75% and the latter 25% to the success of a surgery. Well-considered decision-making and precautious operations lay the foundation for safe surgeries, successful treatments, and patients’ safety. Covering a wide range of sub-specialties including obstetrics, general gynecology, gynecological oncology, reproductive endocrinology and fertility regulation, this conference designed its agenda with the focus on the tight integration of clinical practices, teaching and research, which hopefully can help obstetricians and gynecologists achieve all-round development.
Surgical demonstrations have been the most eye-catching part of the conferences over the years. The conference focused on 14 characteristic surgical procedures that are difficult to perform, which include radical hysterectomy for cervical cancer, pelvic prolapse surgery, single-port robotic gynecological surgery, fetoscopic laser photocoagulation for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, and surgeries treating disorders of sexual development. All those demonstrated the comprehensive strength of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of PUMCH. Through exquisite surgical demonstrations and experts’ superb comments, attendees gained knowledge about the cutting-edge surgical procedures, systemic anatomical methods and intraoperative techniques, which would enable them to further standardize their surgical operations and refine their surgical skills.
