On April 27, 2021, Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) was awarded the National May 1st Labor Day Award. The other institutions receiving the same award include the Case Trial Office of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision, the Department of College Students Affairs of the Ministry of Education, and the Winter Sports Management Center of the General Administration of Sport.

PUMCH is the national guidance center for the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and severe diseases designated by the National Health Commission. All of the staff from PUMCH adhere to the principle of "people-centered, all for patients" in clinical work and continue to promote top-notch hospital development. PUMCH ranked first in the performance appraisal of national tertiary public hospitals in 2018 and 2019, and has been ranked as number one in the "Chinese Hospital Ranking " for 11 consecutive years.

PUMCH has always been courageous in bearing public responsibilities and played a leading role in the public hospital reform of separating medical treatment and drug sales, eliminating medical consumption markup, constructing regional medical consortium and realizing settlement of medical treatment in different places. In the field of teaching, PUMCH led the establishment of the Chinese Consortium of Elite Teaching Hospitals for Residents Training, and has been one of the first hospitals to set up and steadily develop the postdoctoral program of clinical medicine in China. The "PUMCH Experience" in cultivating talents has become an institutionalized arrangement for national medical personnel training. Ten national quality control centers and 29 key laboratories and research centers have settled in PUMCH. The scientific research system integrating basic medicine, translational medicine and clinical medicine has begun to take shape. The hospital management of PUMCH has become more standardized, refined and scientific, and the experience of PUMCH has been promoted nationwide as an advanced example of establishing a modern hospital management system, the concept of which was raised up by the State Council. PUMCH has also make its contribution to promote alleviation of poverty and realize the goal of "successfully treat serious diseases within Tibet" by sending groups consisting of medical personnel to Tibet. Up till now, 56 key group members have been sent to Tibet in 6 batches. Whenever the country needs emergent medical assistance in major epidemic prevention and control, and require health care guarantee in face of major events or tasks, PUMCH has always been in the forefront, taking responsibilities and actions which fulfills the unwavering mission of the hospital.

Standing at a new historical starting point, PUMCH will always stay true to its initial aspiration, forge ahead, and make new and greater contributions to building Healthy China.
