From October 24 to 30, 2020, the “The second China Big Data and Artificial Intelligence of Critical Care Medicine Conference and PUMCH Severe Shock Summit Forum” hosted by the Chinese Health Information and Healthcare Big Data Society and undertaken by PUMCH was held online. The forum lasted for one week. More than 100 domestic and foreign experts made 115 theme reports on critical care medicine and big data application research, additionally with 23 special meetings, 15 literature reports, and 7 case discussions. A total of 14,348 people at home and abroad watched this forum online.
Deputy President Han Ding of PUMCH said that critical care medicine is a platform department. He encouraged the Department of Critical Care Medicine to strengthen academic exchanges and cooperation with brother departments and strengthen cross-border cooperation with different professionals such as big data and cloud computing, to form a joint effort to advance the digitalization of critical care medicine and artificial intelligence.
Director Long Yun introduced that Severe Care Medicine obtains a series of data by monitoring the flow of blood and sees the changes in the intracellular environment from the details, bringing about changes and innovations centered on hemodynamics. The important development direction of severe care medicine will surely be combining data with blood flow, using clinical diagnosis and treatment models driven by critical care big data and artificial intelligence.
Medical staff of the Intensive Care Department played a mainstay role in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. Critical care medicine experts at home and abroad also exchanged their experience and insights in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.
Professor Komorowski from Imperial College London gave a report on the topic of “Big Data and AI in the Treatment of COVID-19”. The speech introduced how to collect and use big data in their ICU, and emphasized the importance of data disclosure and worldwide cooperation in the fight against COVID-19.
Professor Jean-Louis Teboul, a world-renowned critical care medicine expert and director of the Intensive Care Department of Paris Public Hospital, brought a theme report on “Hemodynamic Management of COVID-19 Patients”. Professor Teboul introduced the high incidence of right heart dysfunction and poor lung compliance in patients with COVID-19, and also described how ARDS patients should be judged on volume responsiveness.

Through this conference, experts in critical care medicine discussed effective measures and appropriate treatment in the treatment of severe COVID-19 patients.
