On July 21, 2024, PUMCH President Zhang Shuyang and Nancy Ip, President of Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), signed a strategic cooperation agreement as representatives. The signing was witnessed by Wu Peixin and Han Ding, Vice Presidents of PUMCH, Tong Penger, Associate Provost of HKUST, and Zhang Qian, Head of Division of Integrative Systems and Design at HKUST.
According to the agreement, both parties will continue to deepen cooperation in areas such as medical services, scientific and technological innovation, and talent development. This agreement accelerates efforts to forge a new model of collaboration between mainland hospitals and Hong Kong universities. It also heralds a new chapter in PUMCH’ all-round healthcare services to Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan of China.

In her speech, President Nancy Ip expressed sincere gratitude for the trust and support from PUMCH. She stated that as the economy and society evolve, innovative medical talents that excel in both scientific research and clinical practice are in high demand for medical systems in the future. She pointed out that the signing of this strategic cooperation agreement is an important milestone in HKUST’s cooperation with mainland medical institutions. She also expressed hope for strengthened collaboration between the mainland and Hong Kong in medical research and clinical practice. This partnership aims to nurture the next generation of medical professionals and accelerate the translation of cutting-edge research into clinical applications, ultimately contributing significantly to healthcare development.
PUMCH Vice President Wu Peixin warmly welcomed President Nancy Ip and her delegation and fully acknowledged the progress and important contributions made by HKUST in technological innovation, talent grooming, and interdisciplinary development. He stated that both parties will, based on the principle of “exchange, cooperation and mutual learning for common development”, carry out practical and in-depth cooperation in areas such as cutting-edge technology, translation and application of innovative research outcomes, establishment of interdisciplinary innovation platforms, and nurturing of hybrid medical talents. This aims to explore and build a new paradigm of cooperation between mainland hospitals and Hong Kong universities. The ultimate aim is to better protect people’s health throughout their life cycle.

In March this year, Honorary President Zhao Yupei, President Zhang Shuyang, and Vice President Du Bin received President Nancy Ip and her delegation at PUMCH. In April, President Zhang Shuyang led a delegation to visit HKUST, reaching a consensus on further deepening cooperation and exchanges.
Also attending the signing ceremony were Peng Bin, Vice President of PUMCH, Chen Yu, Vice President of Shenzhen-Hong Kong Institute of Brain Science, and Ru Ruilian, Senior Manager of Mainland Affairs Office at HKUST. Relevant department heads from the hospital also participated in the event.
