Recently, Professor Huang Yuguang, the Director of the Division of Anesthesiology at Peking Union Medical College and Chief Physician at the Department of Anesthesiology at PUMCH, was invited to serve as a member of the International Subcommittee of the International Anesthesia Research Society (IARS). Additionally, Professor Shen Le, the Director of the Department of Anesthesiology at PUMCH, was elected as the Vice Chair of the Safety & Quality of Practice Committee of the World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA). The appointments of Professors Huang Yuguang and Shen Le to these important academic positions in two major international authoritative organizations speak volumes about the international influence of the Chinese anesthesiology discipline. It also provides more opportunities for the PUMCH Department of Anesthesiology to establish a stronger international presence and engage in more international cooperation and exchanges.  

The International Subcommittee of IARS consists of 12 globally renowned experts in the field of anesthesia, including Professor Huang Yuguang. Focused on innovation-driven development, the subcommittee will play a leading role in professional growth, education, and research.

The World Federation of Societies of Anaesthesiologists (WFSA) is a global network of 134 anesthesia societies that represent over 150 countries and regions, hence its far-reaching influence. Its Safety & Quality of Practice Committee consists of 13 globally renowned experts in the field of anesthesia, including Professor Shen Le, aiming to maintain and enhance global anesthesia safety and quality.

Thanks to the relentless efforts of experts such as Luo Ailun, Ren Hongzhi, and Huang Yuguang, the Department of Anesthesiology at PUMCH has established friendly ties and academic partnerships with anesthesia colleagues from multiple countries and regions. Huang Yuguang was elected as the President of the International Society for Anaesthetic Pharmacology (ISAP) in 2013, and Council Member and Deputy Secretary General of the Asian & Australian Regional Section of WFSA in 2014, and then Council Member of WFSA in 2016 and 2020. Professor Shen Le was elected as Council Member of the Asian & Australian Regional Section of WFSA in 2022. In 2023, six outstanding young and middle-aged physicians from the Department of Anesthesiology were selected for the “Hundred Talents Program” of PUMCH and given the opportunity to study abroad. The Department of Anesthesiology, PUMCH will further enhance all-round and in-depth cooperation in medical care, education, research, and management through close communication with international colleagues. Going forward, it will continue to provide consistently high-quality care to patients, setting sights on world-class performance.
