On December 1 and 2, 2022, a delegation led by Zhao Yupei, PUMCH Honorary President and President of the Strategic Development Committee of PUMCH Macao Medical Center/ Macao Hospital (hereinafter referred to as “the Strategic Development Committee”) and Zhang Shuyang, President of PUMCH and member of the Strategic Development Committee, visited Macao. The delegation exchanged opinions with the Secretariat of Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR government about the act on the “management mechanism of the PUMCH Macao Medical Center/Offshore Medical Complex” and preparatory progresses of the PUMCH Macao Medical Center, they also signed a cooperative agreement on work during the preparatory stage.
The Offshore Medical Complex is the first large-scale general hospital to be built in Macao since its return to the motherland as well as a landmark project that improves people’s well-being in the Macao SAR. On December 15, 2021, Ma Xiaowei, Minister of the National Health Commission, and Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao, signed in Macao SAR a memorandum of cooperation on building the offshore medical complex, which is a great boost to the project. Over the past year, under the guidance of the National Health Commission, the PUMCH Macao Medical Center/Macao Hospital has been proceeding forward steadily to satisfactory results.
On the afternoon of December 1, Honorary President Zhao Yupei and President Zhang Shuyang, along with other members of the delegation, had a meeting with Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao, at the Macau Government Headquarters. The two sides had in-depth exchanges on the content of the act on the “management mechanism of the PUMCH Macao Medical Center/Offshore Medical Complex”, and discussed the development of Macao’s greater health industry and the preparatory progress of the new hospital.
Witnessed by Honorary President Zhao Yupei and Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao, President Zhang Shuyang and Li Weicheng, head of the Preparatory Office of the PUMCH Macao Medical Center/ Macao Hospital (hereinafter referred to as the Preparatory Office) signed a cooperative agreement on early preparations for the PUMCH Macao Medical Center between the Preparatory Office and PUMCH, which further specified various tasks in preparation for the step-by-step efforts to put the hospital into operation in 2023.
In the afternoon of December 2, Vice President Wu Wenming led the PUMCH taskforce to hold the second meeting of the legal unit with the Preparatory Office, the legal advisor of the Macao Health Bureau, the legal department and publicity department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao S.A.R. to have in-depth exchanges on the provisions of the aforementioned act and the communication mechanism for the preparation and opening of the new hospital.
During their stay in Macau, the delegation of PUMCH also visited the site of the new hospital to learn more about the construction of the general hospital building, emergency care, outpatient services and staff dormitory building, among others, and had exchanges with the project construction team and other relevant personnel.
At present, the legislative advancement of the “management mechanism of the PUMCH Macao Medical Center/Offshore Medical Complex” and the preparation for the opening of the new hospital have entered a critical phase. In this month, a PUMCH taskforce starts to work in Macao, tasked with promoting the smooth and orderly implementation of the preparations in accordance with the cooperative agreement. With the support of the Macao SAR Government and the guidance of the National Health Commission, PUMCH will exert all its efforts to contribute its services, technology, talents, managerial expertise and branding power to the new hospital so that it can become a first-class Macao medical center with a strong foothold in the Greater Bay Area and influence in Southeast Asia and even worldwide. This will be the PUMCH contribution to the advancement of the Greater Bay Area.
