On August 2, 2022, PUMCH launched its 9th National Summer Camp for Excellent College Students via livestreaming. 325 excellent college students, selected from 1,445 applicants nationwide, were offered a glimpse into PUMCH through this event. The opening ceremony began with two short films, PUMCH’s promotion video and “One-century Heartfelt Love for Our Country and Family”. Students learned about the history and the spirit of PUMCH and were deeply impressed by and appreciative of the culture of PUMCH.
In his speech, Vice President Du Bin, based on the history and status quo of PUMCH, explained the source of motivation for PUMCHers to continuously make breakthroughs in healthcare over the past century from the perspectives of medication, education and research. “Each camper is today’s reader and tomorrow’s writer of PUMCH’s stories”, Vice President Du hoped that PUMCH could provide solid, warm and powerful supports for every camper in their future study.
The Department of Education introduced the integrated training model for postgraduate students at PUMCH, which enables these campers to fully understand the strengths and features of postgraduate education at PUMCH and helps them further clarify their study plans.
Long Junyu, a student representative, shared his experiences in academic research, international exchange, fund application and clinical practice. A would-be clinical postdoctoral fellow at PUMCH, he believed that “at PUMCH, you can not only master clinical thinking, but also get inspirations for research. As long as you dare to try, PUMCH offers a platform to make everything possible.” Luo Wenhao, another student representative, shared his story of becoming a postgraduate student at PUMCH after the summer camp, “PUMCH attaches great importance to the cultivation of students’ competence in clinical practice and the planning of talent development paths. Moreover, its rich resources in education and research give young students great opportunities to unleash their full potential.”
As one representative of postgraduate supervisors, Shen Le, Executive Deputy Director of the Department of Anesthesiology, elaborated on three key questions: “For whom do we train talents? What kind of talents to cultivate? And how to cultivate?”. He illustrated the mutually fulfilling teacher-student relationship based on his personal experience.
After the opening ceremony, campers took an online tour of the PUMCH’s Medical Records Exhibition and Hospital History Museum, which allowed them to better appreciate the spirit of PUMCH. For the forthcoming summer camp activities, campers will visit various departments and have in-depth exchanges with their supervisors to fully understand the time-honored clinical teaching tradition, the open research platform and other features of postgraduate education at PUMCH.
