On April 16-18, 2016, the PUMCH Sino-US Pathology Symposium, hosted by PUMCH Pathology Department, was held in the hospital. Several renowned pathologists from Mayo Clinic and PUMCH were invited to give lectures and have discussions on hot topics in such fields as digestion, gynaecology, breast diseases and head and neck diseases. More than 400 medical workers from across China participated in the event.
The opening ceremony was chaired by Professor Liang Zhiyong from PUMCH Pathology Department. Among those who delivered welcoming speeches were: Professor Liu Tonghua from PUMCH Pathology Department and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Professor Chen Jie from PUMCH Pathology Department and honorary director of the Pathology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, and Huang Yajue, associate professor of laboratory medicine and pathology from Mayo Clinic. The opening ceremony was followed by three-day academic reports.
The academic reports were punctuated by interactions between lecturers and audience, as well as by summaries of the chairperson. On the morning of April 18, an image-reading conference was held, at which young doctors from PUMCH Pathology Department shared their experience in diagnosing rare and difficult diseases based on a large number of typical cases.
The symposium provided an occasion for exchanges between Chinese and American pathologists. According to Academician Liu Tonghua, the lectures and discussions are meant to help Chinese pathologists grasp the latest trends in international pathology community, strengthen the friendship and cooperation between pathologists from the two countries, and therefore push forward the pathological undertakings in China by improving doctors’ skills.
