On the afternoon of July 17, the International Medical Service (IMS, Dongdan Campus) of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) held its "Discover PUMCH" Open Day. Over 30 guests — representatives from foreign embassies and consulates in China, well-known businesses and institutions, and the media — were invited to attend. Guests toured PUMCH's facilities, attended health talks, tried traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) firsthand, and took part in one-on-one health consultations. Through these activities, they saw firsthand the medical expertise PUMCH has accrued over a century, its integration of Chinese and Western medicine, its latest scientific advances, and its capacity for world-class international care.

The guests toured the National Facility for Translational Medicine (PUMCH), the IMS Endoscopy Center, the Health Management Center, and inpatient wards. During the process, they had a close-up look at the hospital's cutting-edge advances in medical innovation and clinical translation, its standardized care pathways, and its patient-centered environment. After watching a short film on the development of PUMCH's international medical services and care for international patients, the guests attended health talks by PUMCH specialists on TCM-based weight management through constitutional adjustment and standardized diagnosis and treatment of thyroid nodules. The talks were well-received for making complex medical topics easy to follow. During the Q&A session, the guests engaged in in-depth discussions with the medical team on topics including long-term chronic disease management, direct billing arrangements with international commercial insurers, and the process of seeking care as an international patient.

The Department of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) demonstrated on site traditional therapies including herbal heat-pack therapy, acupuncture, and auricular acupoint therapy. They also explained the distinct advantages of integrating Chinese and Western medicine in managing chronic diseases, improving sleep disorders, supporting weight management, and providing adjunct cancer care. Wu Qunli, Director of the Department of TCM, introduced that the department now runs 12 integrated Chinese-Western medicine clinics and takes part in nine multidisciplinary care teams spanning diabetes, oncology, Parkinson's disease, and rare diseases; it is currently leading the establishment of a Sleep Medicine Center aimed at pioneering a new, integrative model of sleep care.

Demand for care among international patients has grown steadily in recent years. The IMS (Dongdan Campus) operates its own outpatient and emergency departments and inpatient wards, including private and suite-style rooms, with daytime, evening, weekend, and senior expert clinics available. Drawing on the hospital's broad range of clinical disciplines, IMS follows a multidisciplinary care model. It offers English-language service throughout the care process, along with direct billing arrangements with international commercial insurers and other supporting services. PUMCH's international medical services have now received patients from more than 200 countries and regions worldwide.

Tian Zhuang, Director of the IMS (Dongdan Campus), said the department will keep refining the care process for international patients and improving services before and after treatment. It will also invest further in integrative Chinese-Western health management and raise the overall quality of its international medical services. The Open Day offered a platform for engaging with the outside world, showcasing the hospital's comprehensive clinical strengths and helping to burnish Beijing's reputation as a hub for world-class international healthcare. Going forward, PUMCH will continue to draw on its full range of clinical disciplines and leading medical expertise to deliver care that meets international standards while staying rooted in genuine human care, for patients from China and abroad alike.
