[Program Positioning]

The Clinical Postdoctoral Program at Peking Union Medical College Hospital was officially launched in 2016 after receiving approval from the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security of the People's Republic of China . Grounded in clinical practice and building upon the Standardized Residency Training, the program focuses on the six core competencies of resident physicians, providing advanced training with the aim of cultivating high-level, multi-disciplinary medical experts.

The program emphasizes rigorous clinical theory and skill training, while also attending to research training and the enhancement of teaching capabilities. It adopts an innovative, personalized and progressive training model, featuring a competency-oriented curriculum system. Additionally, the program places great importance on nurturing the medical humanities qualities of the trainees and broadening their international perspectives. Each trainee is assigned a one-on-one mentor to provide comprehensive guidance, with the goal of comprehensively enhancing the core competencies of the clinical postdoctoral trainees.

[Training Outcomes]

After nearly 10 years of exploration and practice, the hospital has recruited 877 clinical postdoctoral trainees, covering 23 clinical medical specialties. Through the competency-oriented training system over the three-year program, the trainees have gradually become the backbone of clinical care, teaching faculty, and research innovation. They have also been recruited by top-tier medical institutions within China. As a demonstration project for postgraduate education, especially the cultivation of high-level talent, the program was awarded the First Prize of National Teaching Achievement in 2022.
