On March 20, 2023, one week after the successful conclusion of the “Two Sessions” (NPC and NPPCC), PUMCH held the Second Session of the Ninth Union Members’ Congress/the Second Session of the Seventh Staff’s Congress and the 2023 Hospital Work Conference in the academic hall of PUMCH. More than 500 people attended the events, including Honorary President Zhao Yupei, President Zhang Shuyang, Vice President Wu Peixin and all the other hospital leaders, invited representatives such as Academician Lang Jinghe, Standing Committee members and members of the NPPCC, former hospital leaders and senior experts, the head of the discipline construction supervisory group, the head of the party building supervisory group, the chairmen and vice chairmen of the five major committees, middle-level cadres, staff representatives and youth representatives. In this invigorating spring of the first year to earnestly act on the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, the attendees gathered to discuss the way forward towards greater achievements, sounding the call to action for all PUMCHers to press ahead and contribute to China’s modernization endeavors.

In the meeting, President Zhang Shuyang delivered the 2023 Hospital Work Report, expounded on the overall plan for pursuing high-quality development of the hospital and laid out the goals, tasks and priorities for 2023.

Vice President Wu Peixin put forward three requirements: first, strengthen the leadership of the Party across the board and stay committed to development as the centerpiece; second, seek innovation while keeping the fine tradition to create a new outlook on development; third, be pragmatic and persevere and rally all those involved around the common cause.

The conference was chaired by Vice President Chai Jianjun. Chief Accountant Xiang Yanzhen delivered the 2022 financial audit report.

Before the event, the staff representatives of the hospital, divided into 15 groups, deliberated on the Hospital Key Work Report and had animated discussions on the paths of high-quality development.

The meeting requested that all departments should pore over the more than 700 pieces of opinions and suggestions put forward by the staff representatives and ensure “a response to every issue raised and the subsequent execution of every response”.  

Guided by the Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era and in line with the spirit of the 20th CPC National Congress, all PUMCHers will uphold the tenet of “people first, life first”, set their sights on the priorities for high-quality development, and stick to the innovation-driven approach; they will proceed with the 14th Five-year Plan steadily and keep advancing the construction of the “six systems”, doing their utmost to write a new chapter for the high-quality development of PUMCH for the new centenary and lay a solid foundation of health for the Chinese modernization endeavors!
