On November 3, 2022, Cao Xuetao, Vice Minister of the National Health Commission, led a delegation to visit PUMCH to offer guidance on high-quality development of public hospitals. PUMCH President Zhang Shuyang and Vice President Wu Peixin received them.  

Cao and the delegation visited the Department of Urology, the Outpatient Consultation Center for Intractable Diseases, and the Translational Medicine Complex and talked to the frontline medical workers. Cao then had an audience with hospital participants, and was briefed about the general situation of the hospital and had in-depth exchanges with heads of some disciplines and functional departments.

Cao acclaimed PUMCH’s performance. He said that PUMCH should strive to elevate itself from a national high-level hospital to a national medical center and become a world-class player in medical services, education and research, bolstered by international cooperation. To that end, first, PUMCH should adhere to the path of comprehensive development and facilitate all-round development of medical talents. Second, it should promote medical ethics, stick to the basic principles unswervingly, and honor the fine traditions in medical and academic practices, fostering an exemplary culture. Third, PUMCH should set clear goals and coordinate the overall arrangement; based on the characteristics of the discipline, PUMCH should become bigger, stronger and better, playing a demonstrative and leading role. Fourth, PUMCH should, guided by a pioneering spirit, address problems as it develops; it should actively strengthen international medical cooperation and talents cooperation, build a world-class research-oriented hospital rooted in medical services; ultimately, it should drive healthcare in China with its own high-quality development.
