On the morning of September 17, 2022, the High-quality Hospital Development Forum was held both online and offline as the second event of the series of academic activities to celebrate the 101st anniversary of PUMCH. Eight presidents and vice presidents from public hospitals that are high-quality development pilots were invited to discuss the path of high-quality hospital development and share their practical experience, welcoming the 20th CPC National Congress with practical actions. President Zhang Shuyang and Vice President Wu Peixin attended the forum and made a speech, and all the hospital leaders in the hospital co-chaired it.

President Zhang Shuyang pointed out in her opening speech that public hospitals, as the main player in China’s medical service system and the backbone for promoting the Healthy China initiative in all aspects, have now reached a critical period of transition from “quantitative accumulation” to “qualitative improvement”, which is also a new stage of development that calls for promoting high-quality development, a new and inevitable task for the public hospitals. The “Opinions on Promoting High-Quality Development of Public Hospitals” provides a fundamental guideline for the reform and development of public hospitals in the new stage, and the “High-Quality Development Evaluation Indicators for Public Hospitals (Trial)” provides a scientific benchmark for evaluating the effectiveness of hospital development. She said that PUMCH, as a public hospital under state management and the pioneer among public hospitals, must focus on improving quality and efficiency, pay more attention to boosting its own driving force, technologies, capabilities and service quality to make its development more efficient and valuable, and play a pioneering and exemplary role in pursuing “the three transformations and three enhancements” for public hospitals.

At the forum, Academician Ning Guang, President of Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University, Professor Li Weimin, President of West China Hospital of Sichuan University, Academician Fan Jia, President of Zhongshan Hospital, Fudan University, Professor Xiao Haipeng, President of the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Professor Mao Ying, President of Huashan Hospital, Fudan University, Professor Wang Yongjun, President of Beijing Tiantan Hospital, Capital Medical University, Professor Liang Tingbo, Secretary of the Party Committee of the First Affiliated Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine, and Professor Xu Xiaoping, Secretary of the Party Committee of the University of Hong Kong - Shenzhen Hospital, delivered wonderful presentations on intelligent hospital, discipline construction, innovative practice, strategic deployment, Party building and Party leadership, and value-based healthcare, etc. The thoughts, philosophies, systems, mechanisms and measures covered by the presentations are very informative and beneficial to the participants.

Vice President Wu Peixin put forward four requirements in his summary: First, be clear-headed to know the shortcomings and deficiencies; second, be lucid to avoid complacency and set higher targets; third, be firm and have confidence and patience; fourth, act swiftly and be down-to-earth. All PUMCHers should further liberate their mind and do their utmost to seek greater progresses together and strive for high-quality development that is more efficient, more dynamic, more sustainable and safer.
