On March 15, 2022, the “Guiding Principles for the Development/Revision of Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines in China (2022 Edition)” was officially published in the “National Medical Journal of China”, and Professor Liu Xiaoqing, a member of the Department of Infectious Diseases of PUMCH and also the Director of the Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-based Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, is the corresponding author. The publication of the guiding principles provides an evidence-based approach and scientific procedures for the high-quality development of clinical practice guidelines in China.

In 2020, the National Health Commission designated the Chinese Society of Clinical Epidemiology and Evidence-based Medicine of the Chinese Medical Association to update the “Guiding Principles for the Development/Revision of Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines in China”; Professor Liu Xiaoqing led a number of scholars from Lanzhou University, Peking University, Fudan University and Sichuan University to compile the “Guiding Principles for the Development/Revision of Clinical Diagnosis and Treatment Guidelines in China (2022 Edition)” and completed the task after nearly two years. The 2022 edition adds four important new parts: conducting pre-registration, writing a plan, managing conflicts of interest and standardizing reporting.

Professor Liu Xiaoqing said that the 2022 edition of the guiding principles will provide evidence-based guidance and recommendations that keep up with international standards and adapt to Chinese practices for the guidelines development/revision by national medical industry societies and associations, evaluation by researchers, use by medical personnel, and publication by journals, among others. Related national authorities will also conduct relevant training for guideline developers and systematic evaluation of published guidelines to promote the successful and smooth execution of the 2022 edition.
