Tasked with providing medical services at the Beijing Olympics and Paralympics, PUMCH put together a Beijing Olympics and Paralympics leadership group, which is led by President Zhang Shuyang and Vice President Wu Peixin and set up five working units for delivering the tasks at full blast. On January 14, 2022, the mobilization meeting of PUMCH Medical Services for Beijing Olympics and Beijing Paralympics was held at the telemedicine center.

At the mobilization meeting, the personnel working at the medical service stations were in uniform and in high spirits, ready to jump into action any minute. Vice President Wu Peixin pointed out that for this grand global sports event marked by “simplicity, safety and excellence”, PUMCH, as the national medical team, should provide “meticulous, professional and strong” medical support, hoping that all medical staff on this mission would “make no mistake and win the battle”!

Vice Presidents Wu Peixin and Chai Jianjun, on behalf of the hospital leadership, presented flags to Dr. Shi Di, the medical manager of the venue medical station, and Dr. Chen Gang, the medical officer of the venue medical station.

Pan Hui, the hospital’s Winter Olympics point of contact and Director of the Department of Medical Affairs, said in his speech that PUMCH, as one of the designated hospitals for the Winter Olympics, undertakes multiple tasks for providing medical services in the field and is part of the municipal-level arrangements of medical service provision. As the “home front”, the hospital will coordinate with those “on the front line” and provide them with all the support they need.

Nephrologist Chen Gang, a representative of the medical officers of venue medical stations, and Xiao Wen, a volunteer representative of venue medical stations and nurse from the Department of Health Care, both delivered speeches, promising that they would, in the PUMCH spirit of “precision, perseverance, diligence, devotion”, make every effort with confidence and conviction to ensure high-quality delivery of medical services.

Li Yongning, Director of International Medical Service, made a solemn pledge on behalf of all the staff involved in the provision of medical services for the Winter Olympics and Paralympics: We will shoulder our responsibility bravely, obey the command, and set an example; we will do more field exercises to work and communicate with each other more smoothly and run a tight ship for medical condition prevention and control, for the ultimate purpose of completing the tasks assigned to us successfully.

The medical personnel on the skiing site also sent a video from the track of the Yanqing National Alpine Ski Center on the top of Xiaohaituo Mountain at an altitude of 2,198 meters. They will provide medical care for all athletes and staff on one of the most challenging alpine skiing tracks in the world and they promise: “We must overcome all difficulties and fulfill our mission, boosting the profile of PUMCH and of China on the international stage!”
