On October 22, 2021, the day surgery operating room in the new outpatient building of Xidan Campus of PUMCH was officially put into use. To ensure the perioperative safety of day surgery patients and improve the efficiency of medical services and patients’ experience, the doctor-nurse joint clinic of the Department of Anesthesiology and Operating Room of Xidan Campus was officially opened on November 25 with the efforts of the Department of Nursing, General Office of Xidan Campus, Information Technology Center, Department of Anesthesiology and Operating Room.

The doctor-nurse joint clinic of the Department of Anesthesiology and Operating Room provides one-stop services such as perioperative anesthesia and operating room nursing-related assessment, preoperative education and related consultation for day surgery patients. The joint clinic is opened so that medical staff can be properly informed about patients’ conditions before surgery and then offer targeted services. Face-to-face communication and question-and-answer sessions help patients significantly reduce their preoperative anxiety and become more cooperative for their surgery, effectively reducing perioperative risks and enabling the closed-loop management of day surgery patients. The joint clinic shifts the preoperative anesthesia and nursing assessment to an earlier stage and completes them in parallel; it is the first specialized nursing clinic for day surgery operating rooms in China and is another innovative initiative to improve quality and efficiency of the hospital.

In the future, doctor-nurse joint clinic of the Department of Anesthesiology and Operating Room will continue to optimize the processes through audio Q&A, SMS prompts and other IT-enabled means, in order to provide patients with standardized and targeted solutions concerning the admission process, surgery process, means of patient care and other issues of common concern.

In the next 100 years, PUMCH will build upon its past achievements and work harder for new accomplishments. With an eye on patients’ difficulties and urgent needs as well as expectations, PUMCH will continue to innovate health service models, build safeguards for patient safety and further improve patient experience, facilitating high-quality development along the way.
