In 2020, President Xi’s “four orientations” has provided clear guidance for the development of science and technology in China. It was under such favorable circumstances that the National Infrastructures for Translational Medicine (Peking Union) was built and put into operation. On September 5, 2021, as an important facility of the National Infrastructures for Translational Medicine (Peking Union), the Translational Medicine Complex was inaugurated. At 10 a.m., a simple but warm and grand inauguration of the Complex and also the Translational Medicine Forum were held at the Lecture Hall.
In response to the “National Medium-and Long-term Plan for Major Scientific and Technological Infrastuctures Construction (2012-2030)”, the translational medicine facility led by PUMCH focuses on research of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases and other difficult diseases related to aging. This carries strategic implications as it meets China’s urgent demand for preventing and treating aging-related diseases as well as ensuring people’s health. Going forward, the Complex will explore an open-ended operation and management model and create research-oriented clinical wards where translational medicine research at molecule, cell, tissue, individual, and population levels can be conducted. In doing so, it promotes innovation and breakthroughs in such areas as cardiovasology, geriatrics, brain science, AI-related medicine, and medical big data mining and sets a “PUMCH template” for the development of translational medicine and medical innovation in China.
