‘With standardized operation and systematized management, we strive to solve practical problems for patients with severe heart diseases across China.’ At the kick-off meeting of the professional technical team for cardiac biopsy of Peking Union Medical College Hospital on the afternoon of July 14, 2020, Professor Zhang Shuyang, Secretary of the Party Committee, put forward her sincere expectations on the coming works of the professional technical team.

The development of diagnosis and treatment of severe myocarditis, cardiomyopathy and heart failure is relatively lagging. Patients often have to travel to many places, and it is hard for them to obtain timely diagnosis and treatment. Led by Secretary Zhang Shuyang, the Department of Cardiology has carried out a lot of work on severe and rare heart diseases. On this basis, it is qualified to conduct large-scale cardiac biopsy. In the future, after the comprehensive building of Translational Medicine in PUMCH and the State Key Laboratory of Difficult, Critical and Rare Diseases being put into operation, PUMCH will actively carry out basic, transformational and clinical research on myocarditis and cardiomyopathy, which can promote research progress of related diseases and provide top-notch cooperation platforms and resources for development of new drugs.

Experts from the Department of Cardiology, Radiology, and Pathology reached a consensus to establish a "Friday Meeting" mechanism to jointly create a resource platform for severe myocarditis and cardiomyopathy cases, so that clinical practice and scientific research can support each other and improve together.
