Three PUMCH studies win the Third Women and Children Health Science and Technology Award

On November 2, 2019, the 2019 China Women and Children Health Science and Technology Conference and the Third Women and Children Health Science and Technology Award Ceremony, jointly hosted by the Women and Children Health Research Association and the China Women's Development Foundation, were held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

Three research projects from Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) were awarded. Among them, the project “Establishing a prevention and control system for growth and development disorders and metabolic diseases in children with abnormal birth weight”, with Professor Pan Hui from the Department of Endocrinology being the principal investigator (PI), won the Woman and Children Health Science and Technology Achievement Prize (first class); the project “Fertility protection throughout childbearing age”, led by Professor Liu Xinyan from the Obstetrics Center, was awarded the Woman and Children Health Science and Technology Achievement Prize (second class); and the project "Discovery of major pathogenic genes of congenital spinal deformity and their mechanisms", with Dr. Wu Nan from the Department of Orthopedics as the PI, won the Maternal and Child Health Natural Science Prize (first class).

The Woman and Children Health Science and Technology Achievement Prize was established with the approval of the National Health Commission and the endorsement of the National Science and Technology Awards Office of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Delivered biannually, it is the highest science and technology award in the field of maternal and child health in China. A total of 62 scientific and technological achievement prizes and 23 natural science prizes were awarded this year, covering topics including health care for women, perinatal health care, child health care, family planning, birth defects prevention, reproductive health, traditional Chinese medicine for women and children health care.
