Prof. Yu Qi Elected President of APMF

On May 30, the Asia Pacific Menopause Federation (APMF) held its 7th Scientific Meeting in Manila, Philippines, at which Professor Yu Qi, director of the Gynecological Endocrinology and Reproductive Medicine Center, PUMCH, was elected president of the Federation. This is the first time the position is taken by an expert from the Chinese mainland.

A leader in the field of menopause, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, PUMCH started menopause study and HRT in the 1970s. From 1999, appointed by the former Ministry of Health, the hospital carried out across the country continuing education on HRT, for the first time bringing in the awareness of menopause and its treatment. In 2001, promoted by Professor Zhang Yiwen, the Menopause Division, Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Chinese Medical Association was established, and Professor Lin Shouqing acted as the first director. In 2003, the Division launched China’s first Clinical Guide on Hormone Therapy during Menopausal Transition and Thereafter. In 2006, Professor Yu Qi was elected director of the Division, and worked in the position till now. Through the efforts of generations of PUMCH workers led by Ge Qinsheng, Zhang Yiwen, Lin Shouqing, Xu Ling, He Fangfang, Yu Qi, Sun Aijun, Tian Qinjie and Chen Rong, the hospital’s achievements have been acknowledged by the world. APMF has decided to hold its 8th annual meeting in Hangzhou, 2021. PUMCH will also, through international academic platforms including APMF, continue its academic exchanges with the world and protect women’s health.
