On October 10, 2018, PUMCH held at its Lecture Hall the initiating meeting for its
First Ophthalmologic Innovation Competition. Hosted by the hospital’s Department of Ophthalmology and supported by the National Healthcare Youth Innovation Center and Global Healthcare Innovation Center, the event is a medical-engineering joint effort between PUMCH and Tsinghua University, to incubate promising projects. Its advisory panel is led by Professor Zhao Jialiang and consists of a dozen experts on medicine, engineering and healthcare.
Most participants of the event are young ophthalmologists of PUMCH. They are collecting from across the country innovations in medical devices, artificial intelligence, diagnostic technologies, therapies, patient management plan or technologies. They can be research results and patents that can be transferred or already in transfer, or preliminary designs of products or practical ideas.
The meeting will be followed by an “Eyes-Opened” innovation salon and training camp. At the salon, innovation tutors and experts on data safety, medical AI, product design and medical investment will be invited to train the participants on innovative thinking, intellectual property, data safety and application, AI, product design and commercial operation. Before the official start of the competition, a training camp will be held to give academic, technological, resource and IP guidance according to collective or individual needs. The event marks a new attempt at innovations by combing medical and engineering efforts.
The meeting also featured a medical innovation and transformation forum, which turned out a feast of brilliant ideas by scholars from related fields.
