In September, at the 96th founding anniversary of PUMCH, the “PUMCH Education Week on Standardized Training for Resident Doctors” was held. The event was co-organized by the hospital’s Office of Education and Department of Surgery. Professor Edward Kim and Professor Kiran Turaga from the United States were invited here for academic exchanges, which helped to advance the hospital’s international exchanges and improve its standardized training for residents. The first section, “clinical skills training” was held on September 15, 2017 at the hospital’s surgery skill lab. Edward Kim, associate professor with Division of General Surgery and director of Surgical Skills Center, UCSF Medical Center, was the chief lecturer and gave training on basic surgical skills. The second section, “assessment and feedback in surgical training”, was held on the 18th. Kiran Turaga, associate professor of surgery, vice chief, Section of General Surgery and Surgical Oncology and director of Surgical GI Cancer Program, University of Chicago Medical Center, attended the event. Present at the event were also many department chiefs, experts and professors from our hospital. The event was chaired by Professor Yu Jianchun from the Department of General Surgery. Associate Professor Long Xiao from the Department of Plastic Surgery briefed on the hospital’s surgeon postdoctoral program: its planning, implementation and initial results. Professor Turaga brought the latest American idea of “assessment and feedback system of surgeon training”, and gave a detailed explanation on timely assessment of resident doctors and improvement of their clinical abilities. Professors Wang Yipeng, Liao Quan and Pan Hui also shared their thoughts, discussed with Professor Turaga, and looked into possibilities of long-term communication platform between the two countries.
