(By Ye Shengnan, Chen Mingyan)  The 2016 PUMCH Int’l Conference on Residency Education was held in Beijing on September 10, which was jointly hosted by PUMCH, CMB and the Chinese Medical Doctor Association. More than 600 people attended the event, including leaders of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, the Ministry of Education and representatives of the “China Consortium of Elite Teaching Hospitals for Residency Education”, teaching hospitals and medical colleges at home and abroad and overseas PUMCH graduates. They discussed difficulties in residency education in China and focused on the building of a strong teaching team.

PUMCH President Zhao Yupei addressed the opening ceremony. NHFPC Deputy Director Liu Qian, Vice Minister of Education Lin Huiqing and CMB President Lincoln Chen gave important speeches.

The event gathered many important guests. CAE Academician Ba Denian, CAMS President Cao Xuetao, NHFPC Sci-tech Education Department Director Qin Huaijin, PUMCH Vice President Zhang Shuyang gave keynote reports. Academician Lang Jinghe, West China Hospital, Sichuan University Vice President Wan Xuehong and President-elect of the American College of Physicians Jack Ende gave reports. Several experts on medical education and public health administration from home and abroad discussed the building of China’s residency education system, from such respects as teacher training, teacher incentive, teaching feed-back and clinical tutors. They included: Dr. Joseph Ming Wah Li and Dr. Cynthia D. Smith from the American College of Physicians, Dr. Jonathan Lio, person in charge of residency education at University of Chicago, Professor Denise Gee from the MGH Surgery Department, Shen Ti, former dean of Department of Medicine, PUMCH and Cui Liying, director of Department of Neurology, PUMCH, Kuang Ming, vice president of the First Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Song Mei, director of Sci-tech Education Department, Beijing Municipal Commission of Health and Family Planning, Yan Zuoqin, vice president of Zhongshan Hospital affiliated to Fudan University, Duan Liping, vice president of Graduate School of Peking University Health Science Center, and Zhang Zhongfang, deputy director of Academic Affairs Office of Shantou University Medical College. The event happened to be on the Teacher’s Day, and the organizer presented each participant with a carnation.
