The ribbon-cutting ceremony

On September 10, 2016, the CMB Beijing Office in PUMCH was completed and put into operation. In 1921, PUMCH was established with funds from the China Medical Board (CMB) under the Rockefeller Foundation. The new office marked another step in the nearly century-old friendship and cooperation between the hospital and CMB, and testified to their commitment to closer communication and new glories.

On the morning of September 10, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the western gate courtyard of the hospital, which was chaired by Li Wenkai, chief representative of BMB Beijing Office. Present at the ceremony were Lin Huiqing, vice minister of education, Zhao Yupei, president of PUMCH, Lincoln Chen, president of CMB, Wendy O’Neill and Fred Hu, trustees of CMB. Guests included Ba Denian, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Qin Huaijin and Jin Shengguo, director and deputy director of the Department of Sci-tech Education, National Health and Family Planning Commission, Zhang Shuyang, vice president of PUMCH, representatives of the “China Consortium of Elite Teaching Hospitals for Residency Education”, CMB Beijing Office and PUMCH.

President Zhao Yupei, on behalf of all PUMCH staff, expressed welcome to the CMB Beijing Office. He said that the hospital enjoyed a long history of cooperation with CMB, and the settlement of its Beijing Office will facilitate joint efforts in standardized residency education, the “China Consortium of Elite Teaching Hospitals for Residency Education”, education of post-doctoral students on clinical medicine and the construction of modern distance medicine center. These efforts aim at building a residency education system that is in line with both Chinese conditions and international practices, carrying out the instructions of President Xi at the National Hygiene and Health Conference and pushing forward the “healthier China” program.

CMB President Lincoln Chen thanked the hospital for inviting CMB back. He said the hospital provided not only an office venue of traditional style but an emotional bond between the two sides. The new office, while shortening the physical distance, offers more possibilities for further cooperation. He also thanked the staff from both sides for the installation and decoration of the new office. A grand evening reception was held in the new office to express appreciation for support from all sides.
