The Tibet-PUMCH Critical Care Medicine & Haemodynamics Summit was recently held in Lhasa. This is the first time that PUMCH combines efforts of large-scale academic exchanges on critical care medicine with sending assisting medical teams to Tibet. This is also the highest-level academic conference on critical care medicine ever held in Tibet. The Critical Care Medicine Branch of Tibetan Medical Association was also established at the same time.

The Summit was supported by the assisting medical team to Tibet and jointly hosted by the Critical Care Medicine Department of Tibetan People’s Hospital, Critical Care Medicine Department of PUMCH and the Tibetan Critical Care Medicine Branch of the Chinese Medical Association. During the two-day event, Professor Liu Dawei, director of Critical Care Medicine Department of PUMCH and first director of the Critical Care Medicine Branch of Chinese Medical Association, gave detailed explanations on basic concepts of haemodynamics, liquid management in patients under shock, haemodynamic treatment upon brain injury and the application of critical ultrasound in shock cases. He also answered questions on the characteristics of treatment in Tibet region and on typical cases.

According to Liu, haemodynamics has in recent years played an increasing role in the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of critical cases, and has become an indispensable theoretical base of the daily work of critical care medicine. He said that further efforts will be made to help boost the medical and research level of Tibetan region and build a strong local team for critical care.
