On February 14, 2016, a delegation led by Wang Guoqiang, vice director of the National Health and Family Planning Commission and director of State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, inspected PUMCH’s efforts on women and children health by touring the wards of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology.
In terms of number, quality and resources, China’s women and children health care services are facing great challenge as the two-child policy unfolds, the number of newborns increases and the percentage of older-age pregnant women rises. During the inspection, Wang stressed efforts to implement the lines of the Fifth Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee, further the medical reform and improve the quality of public services in birth giving and women, children health. He urged efforts to rationally distribute health care resources, build standards for the construction and management of women, children health care institutions, improve service conditions and quality and satisfy increased public needs. He said that efforts must be made to better address serious and acute disorders in newborns and pregnant women, improve the referral network and ensure the openness of emergency channels for mothers and babies. Health care services during and after pregnancy must be improved to ensure safe, comfortable and scientific birth giving. The training of doctors and nurses in departments of pediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology must be accelerated and reasonable prices shall be set for services. Remuneration distribution shall also be improved to stabilize teams and provide incentive so that medical workers can better serve for the health of women and children.
