The afternoon of March 31, 2015 saw the ongoing of a discussion by more than 20 experts from a dozen departments on a difficult case at the Pancreatology MDT Center at the fourth floor of the outpatient building of PUMCH. This marked the 200th consultation since the Center was established five years before with an aim to raise the quality and efficiency of difficult case diagnosis by pooling resources.

Established on May 11, 2010 by academician Zhao Yupei, the Center gathered more than 20 top Chinese experts from ten departments--pancreatic surgery, gastroenterology, medical oncology, endocrinology, pathology, ultrasonography, radiology, radiotherapy, nuclear medicine, and anesthesiology—and has handled through the MDT mode 1,582 cases, clarifying diagnosis and saving lives. The medical service mode of “doctors around patient” created by the Center provided a direction for large comprehensive hospitals’ pooling resources to solve rare, difficult cases.
