Plasma-cell mastitis (PCM) is a kind of non-infectious mastitis of unknown cause, and refractory PCM had been an acknowledged headache in the mastitis field. Professor Huang Hanyuan from the Department of Breast Surgery, PUMCH, was, after ten years’ research, the first in China to propose a new surgical method. While removing lesion tissues, he uses plastic technique to cover the wound with surrounding flaps and reshape the damaged area, which satisfactorily solves the problems of recurrence, wound healing and the shape of breasts.

Professor Huang and his team have in the recent four years performed more than 540 such surgeries with a success rate of 98%. Related theses are published in the Journal of Surgical Research and the Chinese Journal of Breast Disease.
