On January 24, 2015, PUMCH held its first Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) for resident surgeons. 71 surgeons sit for the exam, including those from the hospital itself, its Beijing base and Shenzhen base.

PUMCH's surgical teaching group formulated the OSCE plan by considering the actual conditions of surgeon training and referring to the phase 1 multi-station examination of Beijing. The Examination were in seven stations: mini clinical scenarios, writing of important documents, case analysis, communication skills, operation skills, simulated operation and film reading. Each station focused on central skills required from resident surgeons and at the same time emphasized medical ethics, so as to serve the purpose of fundamentally boosting the medical care quality. Favorable feedbacks came in from both teachers and students after the completion of OSCE.
