On September 18, 2018, the final review of 2018 Wu Jieping Medical Awards was held in Beijing. Six people, including Professor Li Taisheng from our hospital, won the award.

Founded by the Wu Jieping Medical Foundation, this is a high-level award in China’s healthcare community. Professor Li has for more than three decades been devoting himself to the clinical and translational study of infectious diseases. Particularly, he carried out systematic and innovative studies on the clinical treatment and immunology of AIDS and SARS, contributing significantly to China’s bench to bedside study of infectious diseases. He was the world first to propose "immune reconstitution" for AIDS and, based on local practice, worked out a “China Plan” that is efficient, inexpensive and low toxic, and ensured the fast promotion of antiviral therapy in China. He led the formulation of China’s AIDS Guidelines, which became a state-level standard. He trained a medical staff of ten thousand through meetings and classes, providing technical and personnel support to lowered fatality rate of AIDS. He also revealed laws of human immune response caused by cross-species spread of SARS, and proposed new clinical strategies.
