With the hospital’s 97th birthday drawing near, it held the 5th Young Surgeons Skill Competition at 16:30, September 14 at the 4th floor multi-function hall of the medicine building. The event was jointly organized by the hospital’s Youth Work Department, Party Branch of the Surgery Department, Department of Surgery, Education Office, Trade Union and Publicity Office.

As usual, the competition had compulsory questions, quickfire questions, risk questions and stitching operations. New features included video translation acting and simulated laparoscopic cholecystectomy (LC). The end-place wash out system made the competition fiercer. Real clinical images in the past year were used to create vivid scenarios and test participants’ daily skills. Equipment simulating laparoscopic surgery was newly introduced, using animal organ model keeping perfusion pathways and adjacent organs. This created the surgery environment as much as possible, giving participants a sense of immersion and showing to audience their detailed movements.

This year, 92 young surgeons in 23 teams registered for the competition. Finally, “Big Hero” and “Cart Pusher” won the third place, “Crossing the Hill” won the second place and “Smiling Team” won the top title “S-TEAM”. On September 17, hospital leaders presented awards to the teams.
