China Frailty/Sarcopenia Research Kicked off in PUMCH

On July 14, 2018, a China Frailty/Sarcopenia Research was launched at the Lecture Hall, which was hosted by the Department of Gerontology, PUMCH. It was an introduction of a multi-center clinical test across China led by the Department, and was attended by more than 30 leaders and researchers from about 10 centers from Sichuan, Liaoning, Jiangsu, Hunan and Inner Mongolia.



Liu Xiaohong, director of the Department, addressed the meeting and talked about the significance of multi-center study. Vice Director Kang Lin briefed on the concrete plan. Li Rongrong from the Department of Clinical Nutrition gave a nutrition guideline for the aged and Zhang Lu from the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation gave an introduction of physical exercise at home. Experts had discussions and gave suggestions on improving the plan.



The study targets those above 60 who suffer from frailty/sarcopenia, which feature slowed pace, tiredness, reduced weight and reduced grip. The study tries to deal with these symptoms through nutrition guide and rehabilitative recommendations. The Department also opened at the medicine area a “sarcopenia clinic” every Wednesday morning to help the aged stay healthy in their muscles.
