PUMCH pays great attention to the research of translational medicine and precision medicine, and after the continuous efforts of its team the hospital has successfully boosted its influence at home and abroad; it has been leading Chinese medical institutions in terms of research and sharpened its competitive edge as a research-focused hospital.

Presently it houses 1 state clinical research center, 2 ministerial key labs as well as professional research institutions including a translational medicine center and a clinical pharmacology research center, which have laid a well organized and complete basis for the hospital's efforts in the research of high-end translational medicine and precision medicine. The construction project named "State Key Sci-tech Infrastructure for Translational Medicine (PUMCH)" has been approved by the state and the comprehensive building for translational medicine, after completion, will become a world-class, open-door overall research platform of the state.

The hospital boasts a research team that is competent and well-balanced. It includes 5 academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 1 Yangtze Fund scholar and 2 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. The hospital also pays great attention to the growth of middle-aged and young researchers and has provided a stage for them by way of research funds, CTSI training courses and so on.

During the past five years, the hospital has won more than 500 projects at state and provincial levels, including those under the National Science and Technology Major Project, the National Key Technology Support Program and the National Natural Science Foundation, with an average fund of hundreds of millions of yuan each year; it has won several awards of scientific research at various levels; it also led Chinese medical institutions in the publishing of scientific theses by publishing several highly influential SCI papers in world-class journals including New England, Lancet and Science• Translational Medical.

In recent years, the hospital has been actively engaged in academic exchanges and cooperation with the outside world, and has established long-term partnership with several top institutions at home and abroad. It has entered separate cooperation agreements with Tsinghua University and Beijing University of Aeronautics & Astronautics, in an effort to push forward clinical and translational medicine by combining medicine with engineering. It also established with UCSF a comprehensive strategic partnership and built a public platform in respect of personnel training, academic exchanges and project application.
