Founded in 1921 by the Rockefeller Foundation, Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH) is a national center guiding the diagnosis and treatment of difficult and serious diseases appointed by the National Health and Family Planning Commission. It is internationally reputed for its comprehensive yet specialized departments and rich clinical experience.

For five years on end, PUMCH topped the "Best Chinese Hospitals" list for the years 2009-2013 published biennially by the Hospital Management Institute, Fudan University. 20 of its departments led the "Most Renowned Chinese Hospital Departments" list published in 2014.
Divided into East Yard and West Yard, the hospital presently houses 2,000 beds, 53 clinical and medical departments, 20 key disciplines of the Ministry of Education and 29 key clinical departments of the state. On an annual average, the hospital treats 3.264 million person/time outpatients, sees 87,105 discharges and completes 47,257 operations, with an average hospitalization time of 7.7 days.
As PUMCH is one of China's earliest hospitals to treat foreigners, its International Medical Services (IMS) provides quality medical care for patients from more than 120 countries and regions. Services include outpatient treatment, vaccination, physical check on working days, 7×24h emergency treatment and hospitalization.
